I Am Wondering What The Dealership Told You To Use, And What You Are Really Using And Why ?

I asked the dealer if I can put regular and he said yes. Toyota also said that the engine can run on regular. I havce tried all 3 ratings here in Miami. I found no difference in MPG between the octanes. The only difference that I sense is that the exhaust noise is a bit louder on regular then on the higher octanes. Just my 2 cents. Be ready to be bombarded by everyone regarding this topic.

Dude I have been running regular and getting 16 mpg. No bueno am switching over to premium to see if i get the mpg that they said on sticker. IF i do i did the math and it will be like getting 2 extra gallons out of my tank for another $3.20 at the pump...

Just picked up my rig. Drove from Spokane Washington to St. Helens Oregon (386 miles). The first tank was from the dealer ( I assume it was regular unleaded) and we averaged 21.2 mpg. Filled up with high test and still am waiting to run through it to get the results.

I use the premium as recommended. It's not the fuel mileage that's in question here but the longevity of the engine. This engine was designed to run on premium. A lower octane will cause pinging and detonation. Now you won't hear the pinging because the knock sensor will hear it before you do and retard your timing.

I would never believe a salesman at a dealership when it comes to a topic like this.

I ran premium on my FJ 80 for 14 1/2 years and 173k miles; never had a minutes trouble with the engine. My new FJ gets the good stuff.

I use Premium (91) and the guy selling me the car insisted that it didn't require premium fuel, but when I called the service department for a specialized mechanic on the question, he said to use premium. How many of you guys would trust a dealer over a Toyota specialized mechanic?

Also, I averaged that by using Premium, you really only end up spending .002 more because you are driving more miles per fill-up. I can upload my chart if you guys don't believe me...
