Superchargers: URD vs Magnuson?

I will likely be placing an order for a S/C in the next month or two. After researching into the two, Magnuson seems to be better fit for my use due to the torque coming on sooner, and on top of that, I love the whining sound. I like URD due to the complete kit offered that included injectors, high output fuel pump, and ucon for better tuning. Price difference is only $800ish, but the Magnuson does not include injectors, fuel pump, or a good tune.

I've read the horror stories of the Bullydog flash/tune with the Magnuson kit. Has this been solved yet? I believe the only options is to either purchase a ucon or have the ecu flashed by Toyota (which I read is tuned very rich).

There doesn't seem to be many reviews on the URD kit.

Those with either kits, do you regret not going with the other?

Thanks!

I'm cool with Magnuson. URD advertises more hp. You do get injectors/ spark plugs in Magnuson kit. I don't have carb compliance worries and after reading all the Tacoma world nightmare posts I started second guessing bd tune and wishing I had gone URD. I have over 8k miles on the s/c now and it's been great. Bully dog tune same s/c belt no leaks anywhere, problem free. Other than initial s/c pulley assembly needing a washer to shim (it out took a minute to figure that one out). If you wait a week or two I can give you more info between bd tune and TRD dealer flash. I bought a used ecu off ebay and I'm going to get the dealer flash for peace of mind. If I have any problems then I'll go back to the bd flashed ecu. I did the fuel pump upgrade from URD before my s/c was delivered, maybe that is why I've had no problems. I installed fuel pump/ filter upgrade and the s/c myself. I'm Very satisfied just want the TRD tune to be sure.

I would go URD. It's more of a complete kit with fuel pump and UCON. If you end up buying a UCON later you'll be in more with the Magnuson than URD. Magnuson torque may come on sooner in dyno, but real-world there is no comparison. I rode in shannon67's URD Stage 2 FJ and when I got back in mine it felt like I was stock. Granted my TRD at the time was Stage 1 (still had cats but I had smaller pulley and UCON), but the power level and delivery from the URD was much better than the TRD. I drove out to Moab with shannon67 in 2015 and while I could definitely keep up with him no problem, he had way more pull on the highway than I did.

The URD is 325 RWHP. According to an online guesstimator, the TRD 304 BHP is about 250 RWHP. So even if TRD full power comes in sooner, URD has +75 RWHP, and that's Stage 1 for both kits.

His gas mileage was a little worse than mine. And by that I mean he got 9.5mpg and I got 11mpg

From an engine life and longevity standpoint the TRD/Magnuson probably has the upper hand, just due to it producing less power.

I see that you're in Houston, I'm in College Station. Let me know if you want to meet up and test drive mine. Might even make you a sweet deal on a TRD S/C so I can go URD :thinkerg:

If you can afford to purchase a supercharger and your going drive it like you stolid, then you shouldn't be worried about gas mileage, If you are, leave everything stock on the FJ.😮.
