OK so I'm sooo excited to put together my new setup concluding a ARB bumper and Smittybilt XRC8 winch with a hawse fairlead and synthetic line and ......of course theres problems.

Maybe someone can tell me if the XRC8 is even "clockable" so that I can have a better reach to the clutch lever.

Lastly does anyone have any pictures or how I can mount a hawse fairlead instead of rollers??

I ended up installing the bumper without the winch:mecry::mecry:

If anyone can offer some advice or offer a link that can help me out I would really appriciate it!! I'm hoping to avoid purchasing a Daystar synthetic roller fairlead.

Thanks!!!!!

First of all the Smitty is clockabale and yes you can mount an aluminum fairlead but you need an offset type like this one from the place listed on the fairlead:

I called Smitty and they told me how to clock my xrc10, its pretty simple to do but mine did not clock to a perfect 90* but its close and gives you the ability to reach the handle.

You dont have to totally remove the bumper to install the winch, thanks to Layton, I was able to pivot the bumper out enought to lift the winch into place using a floor jack. To do this you will need to remove all the mounting bolts except to top ones on each side, just break those loose. Also, check the length of the cables that go from the winch to the control box, my cables were short and would not reach the control box mounted on the bumper so I had to buy longer ones.

If you look at the access hole you can see the handle:

Man thanks for the quick replys. I gotta say I'm dissapointed that I don't have the winch in yet...but thanks to you guys it won't be long.

Do you have any steps on how to clock the winch? I thought all you had to do was remove the small allen bolts, but I guess thats not the case.

HAHA I read that thread a few days ago before I bought the winch when I was reading reviews of Smittybilt and I must have skipped that page. I litteraly read everything else though.

Thanks a million!

Can anyone help me when I am searching for a winch. I also have an ARB bumper but I don't know the key words to look for when searching for a winch to ensure that it will fit my bumper. I would like synthetic rope and I'm thinking about getting a 12,000lb winch to be better prepared than under-prepared. Does anyone know of a list of available winches that will fit the ARB bumper? Thanks all:cheers:

I think the list of winches that don't fit the bumper is the smaller list. There is a lot of room in there.Mind you these are winches with the control box that are not attached to the winch.I used a Viper 12000 MAX and it was easy with the ARB.

Yellowasp,

Look for the mounting plate bolt pattern on your bumper. Many are 4.5" X 10". Then check the specs on the bumper you are considering to see if they are in accord. Second, check the specs on your bumper as to the biggest winch it will hold. Some bumpers will specify only up to 8000# or 9000# or whatever.

I'm just now rigging out my 2010. I've order a Rugged Ridge 10,500# winch, which I've not received yet. RR is mostly a Jeep supplier, but the winch specs worked for the Body Armor bumper I bought (also on the way).

Hopes this helps at least a bit.

Thanks Man, I decided to go with a Viper Max 12,000 from MotoAlliance. I ordered it from stan for $375 for the winch and $220 for synthetic cable and $5 for shipping ( i don't know how he does it). It came today (4 days after I ordered it)! Opened the box and I was impressed and so happy. Thanks for a quality winch Stan
