I'm heading to Yellowstone and Teton National Parks this summer. Anyone know about trails, or rules that govern off-road opportunities in national parks?

no, just came back from there last week on the bike though. Good luck if you don't have reservations on a room or camp site. Bring your fly pole, it is beautiful!

AS far as I know, there are no off-road trails within Yellowstone or Grand Teton National Parks for 4wd vehicles....plenty of hiking trails and biking trails, though.

My wife and I went to Yellowstone/Tetons in May and had a great time But inside the parks there are no offroad trails for vehicles. Outside the park borders there are more dirt roads but we did not have enough time to check anything out, 4 days in yellowstone park and we still didn't get to see all of it, both parks are really beautiful and loaded with wildlife. Bring your fishing poles and cameras

We just returned from Tetons/Yellowstone, mostly Tetons. There is a gravel road that runs through the middle of the Teton Valley that you can get on. It runs along a ridge above the Snake River and we saw no other people on it. Our grandson was with us and he loves 4-wheeling. This is not a 4x4 road, but at least you can see wildlife and the area without lots of other tourists around. Next day, we found another gravel road on the East side of the valley and had some water crossings. The grandson thought that was way cool. But any of the roads that go up into the Tetons, in the park area, are only hiking or horse. As far as Yellowstone, we only had one day and did the southern circle tourist thing. Awesome country! We are definitely going back when we have more time to explore.

I have never heard of an open trail within the boarders of a national park; however, outside of yellowstone there are numerous opportunities particularly in SW montana. If you make it that far, drop me a line I would be happy to discuss further. I will be about 45 minutes NW of West Yellowstone this weekend to play a show in Lima, MT, but I will taking trails to get there.

it never seemed overcrowded and we spent two days there on motorcycles, but lodging inside and at the gate towns were booked solid. Call ahead now.

When are you going to be there?

We will be there for five days towards the end of September.

There are at least 2 dirt/gravel roads in Teton. One follow the Snake River on the west bank and is quite long. We were the only rig on it and saw no one all day. And yes there was wildlife along it also. There is a gate and I'm sure that once the weather changes and the rains come they close it. No 4x4 road but you're not on pavement, no one around and the scenery was just as spectacular as on the pavement. It should be on any good map of the Tetons.
