Ok so I have been in the market for some 16" wheels and have done some research on this forum. The question of will this wheel fit comes up a lot and seeing as some others have tried and failed with similar threads I figured I would give it a go. So post up rims that you PERSONALLY have experience with fitting the FJ that are 16" and fit WITHOUT the use of spacers (another heavily debated topic). Also if the specs are known please add these in as it will help people when ordering these wheels.

I'll Start us out: Wheelers offroad 16" Wheels for the FJ

Both of these wheels come in both type A and B:

Type A:
16x8
Backspacing- 4.5"

Type B:
16x8
Backspacing- 4"

These wheels do not require spacers.

After spending much time researching this same topic I found the following specs to be the most accurate requirements for the 16" wheel to fit an FJ without the use of spacers.

16" x 8" wheel dimension

6 x 5.5" bolt pattern

4.5" or 4" backspacing

I have also been told & shown by a very reliable source (they build/fabricate custom FJ rigs) that a LandCruiser steel wheel with 3.5 back spacing is what they use all the time.

After being unable to get the wheel I wanted, I purchased the same wheels as posted above, I got the 'Type B' with 4" backspacing and am glad I did - gave me about 1 3/4" wider stance.

I'm running 16" Pro Comp 4028s, backspacing 4.5", they clear with plenty of space between rim and caliper:

Eagle alloys series 101B (Black) , Ran them fine on my 07' dont have pics at this time, but it is a sweet wheel for the fj. I will state that the caliper clearance was paper thin . 16 x 8 w 3.68 backspacing so they they do stick out a bit. Now I run TRD until i can buy a 101B for a spare and test caliper clearance.

Konig countersteer offroad 16x8......4.5BS with 0 offset no spacers needed. Running 295/75/16's Hankook RT03's...aftermarket uca's (with my tire choice these tires would probably make contact with the OEM uca). U will probably need your caster set on the high range.... 3.3 or so to keep from rubbing the body mounts with this tire size.

Just ordered the Bronze Countersteer Offroads. I believe the the guy at JLB said they were 4.5" backspacing. Made just for Taco's and FJ's. Superlight (18 lbs) and well built according to a lot of Taco owners on their forum. Most likely getting some 315/75 R16 from Treadwright to play with.

Sorry for the crappy picture.

Looks like the procomp 98's. Here is the link to the wheels and specs below. Series 98

Rock Crawler Series 98 Gloss Black Monster Mod Wheel
16x8, 6 on 4.5 Bolt Pattern
Backspace = 4.25 in.
Max Load = 2000 lbs
Finish = Gloss Black Powder Coat
Center Caps sold separately.

The specs look good to me? They are between the wheelers 4"-4.5" backspacing for a 8" wheel. So, got me? Searching for a 2digit number on the forum sucks arse! Especially with pro comp or procomp. Ughhh!

Basically it the same thing as the wheelers offroad wheels. so, there you go. They have been proven to fit.

Those ARE the 87 series Pro Comp wheels by the way. Wheelers had them made specifically for them in those two back spacings.

How about a separate list of wheels that fit w/o hubcentric rings?!

I'm looking at the new classic locks in black that are coming out in a couple months. The only 16" they offer in 6-5.5 is the 4" BS with a -12 offset. I assume that is the same size you would have used in the polished version. Can you post some pics and/or let me know if that is the same size you used on your FJ? I saw a set of 17" posted in the other thread for tires, but no MT CL in a 16"

I want to see where the tire comes to for width with the OEM fender flares, and how this 16" will fit the FJ.

If I missed my answer somewhere in this or another thread, it is not for a lack of looking for it. Thanks, Dave

The Mickey Thompson Classic Locks fit fine for me. They do not hit the calipers at all, they will require a body mount chop with 285/75/R16 tires. I believe the backspacing is 4" The part number for the ones I have is 1368412

Please forgive my ignorance, but I have a couple of questions. First of all why 16 inch preference over the stock 17 inch? Second and kind of related, are steel or aluminum wheels better for a daily drive/occasional off roader? Oh and third why do factory alloy wheels always have to be ugly as sin? Granted the ones of the FJs are better than most I have seen but are still blah... The TRD wheels are ok though.

Thanks J

Tires:
Yokohama Geolandar M/T+ Mud Tire(s) 315/75R16

----------
I do have the Rough Country 6" lift and already have 1-1/2" spacers and body chop, etc.

My reasoning for getting rid of the Southeast Toyota made BBS alloy rims is they SUCKOLA!!! lol They are the WORST imo as they cannot be balanced and I'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers, which are a great tire until they are about down to 1/3 tread left and then are pretty worthless. Down here in in SWFL where the mud is very sandy/abrasive, you can go offroad/mudding and lose have your tires on a weekend with the Nittos, very soft tire and I basically get about 9,000 miles out of a set if I go offroad much...yeah, that quick...
I'm going to a 16" rim because the tires are about $100 cheaper each and there is more variety/choices imo with a 16" over a 17" and I can get a bigger tire with more sidewall in the same hole...lol meaning more room when I air it down some too.

Once I get them on I will post pics!! ;-)
