I hear you on the CD's. The sound off a CD is great. I upgraded about 2 month ago. I went with a Pioneer AVH-2550NEX. I'm very happy with it. It has everything you are looking for. Do you currently have the FJammer with 8 or 9 speaker audio?

Just installed this head unit around Xmas. Good sounding stereo. I bough the radio, speakers, amp and all related pigtails and wiring from Crutchfield. A1 company to deal with. Prices are fair and the tech support is tops. Just my .02 cents.

 

I also have the 2550nex and am happy with it

 

When I installed a Pioneer AVIC08200NEX from Crutchfield, it came with two little filler pieces that went on the sides of the double DIN screen.
One nice feature of that unit is the tilt screen (you can see the mounting angle of the FJ visible on the side piece in the photo below, and how the screen is angled out to be both parallel with the dashboard and also to be easier to touch screen with:
