Last weekend I installed Bilstein 6112 coilover's and removed the old stock units with their spacers. The front coils pretty near pooped me out. I did the rear 5100 a few weeks ago, during some nice weather.

Nice, better man than I :) I had a shop do the install. I have the same Bilstein setup with 2.5" OME springs on the rear.

How is the ride difference?
Did you have any issue with alignment cams?
I like the ride, softened up those fire trails and logging roads

I had to replace the upper control arms (Light Racing) to get the front end alignment to come in.

Depending on the amount of lift (OP doesn't say, but implies a lift when he said, 'spacers'), longer UCAs may be required to achieve a good alignment. IIRC, up to 2" can sometimes be OK without it (YMMV), but from other threads here, 3" will need it.

Speaking of alignment after a shock swap: I was surprised at how far out my alignment was after simply replacing shocks on my stock ride height FJ. It drove OK, but the shop (which I trust) showed me the before and after measurements.

Unfortunately, as 71gs3504sp pointed out, in my case, my adjusting bolts were seized and required cutting out. So, I still have my stock UCAs, but now have a brand new pair of LCAs (and heavily anti-seize coated) alignment bolts/cams, as a result of my "simple shock swap".

Back to Dirtdog: did you have any trouble with the alignment after fitting your new dampers?

Any improvements cornering and with nose dive when breaking? We'll have identical setups here soon and I am coming from a spacer lift up front. Looking to get a 650lb spring rather than the 600 that comes standard on the 6112 for when I upgrade the front bumper to Expedition One WyoOtto (140lb). I haven't heard if the 600 will cut it, though I've seen people running it with an aftermarket bumper.

I imagine the Bilsteins maintain the original ride "plushness" but I want to make sure it has proper firmness.

I have a USoffroad winch-mount and winch with the standard 600 lb springs, behaves pretty well. as I said, less harsh including stopping, cornering. ive never had a problem with nose-dive. I drive smooth.
