SNT Korea will unveil the IOPS in car PC at the Cebit trade fair which starts on March 15. Powered by Windows XP the touchscreen PC is equipped with GPS for navigation. It supports T-DMB for viewing Live TV on the move which can be later recorded on the onboard hard drive for later viewing or you can burn it on a disc. You are constantly connected to the Internet via HSDPA which provides broadband like download speeds, hook up a Bluetooth Keyboard / Mouse and your mobile office is ready. More details like Processor, Memory, Hard drive etc are not known yet, however they will be unveiled this week at Cebit.

More details and photos here...

Thanks for the additional links. I think we will see this as a merging market in the next 5 years. Right now there isn't enought products out there.

Question: If you have a PC in your car, what software would you want?

GPS/Google Earth?
Car diagnostics like ScanGage?
Trip calculator and monitoring?
Any other ideas?

For in car software, either Mac OS or Linux - absolutely no Windows. I have enough problems with the front windshield without haveing more 'Windows' in the vehicle. :)

Running embedded Linux on flash is certainly a good option, but I have seen people rune XP embedded as well as full XP and Linux installs. Haven't seen a Mac install in person yet.

I have been kicking around the idea of running one of the Gigabyte RAM disks for the OS disk as well.

Lots of options out there.

I run XP Pro on mine, So the Boy can play his
games when we are on Trips...

I am trying to decide on a 10-12" monitor now,
the Lilliput 7" Touch Screen I am using is just
hard to see when the truck us moving around...

I like the Mount Air2Air did, and I am thinking a
larger monitor would work great there, and I
would be able to se it too... got to work on that
idea some more...

Some of this stuff looks interesting, but some of the functionality I can really do without. The on the move TV and recording I have no interest in. I like the idea of being able to receive email and have GPS. I would also like to have iTunes or really any mp3 player for my audio library.

I use Windows XP home. Professional is too clunky and more geared toward a corporate environment, and I hate Macs....they suck....so do crackpods. Flame on, Baby! :flamed:

I use Mobile Impact for my frontend. It's free, it's awesome, and it does exactly what I need very well. You can download it for free here: Mobile Impact - Mobile Car Computer Entertainment Software Solution

I don't have an FJ yet, but I have a PC in my 88 MR2, and I use a 8" Lilliput touchscreen, and a small case with everything else under the seat. Works great!

You can build a Car PC for alot less than the in dash units, and you can mount a dash unit and run the video over to the PC, so you have the in dash unit as your display, but it's just a DVD player in reality.

I shop at Logic Supply - Leaders In Mini-ITX Solutions They are great! They have one of the best selections available, aside from the mecca of all carputing: mp3car.com | your source for mobile computing solutions

Carputers are the way of the future. No longer will I mess with anything less.

My Mac mini install is forthcoming. I'm still waiting for a decent double-din headunit/vga touchscreen combo to install the thing.

Key requirements for me are double-din, VGA LCD and using an external computer.

There's one that is out now sold at D I G I T A L W W . C O M - Digital WorldWide Inc. but I've heard mixed reviews.

My Mac mini and Carnetix power supply are waiting patiently since I don't want to
