I got my lights installed today. I tried two different types of grommets and they were both incredibly tight. I had to use a heat dun to soften the rubber to get them in. No concerns about water ingress or them coming out LOL :)

Thanks @ScoobyFJ for the inspiration and tips.

Besides that, it was relatively smooth once I had all the parts (including red vinyl to make them orange).

Here’s the light with the resistor inline and the bulb socket connector soldered on... I used a 680 Ohm resistor which cut the voltage to the light roughly in half.

In this shot you can see I still had to work the right side of the light onto the grommet a bit better. It required patience which is not my forte :)

How’s the rubber grommet holding up? Is it snug enough for the light to not pop out when going over rough bumpy trails?

Any idea where I can buy Toyota FJ Cruiser KC Hilites CYCLONE V2 KIT bracket for my side mirror lights. Apparently KC doesn’t make them anymore. Thanks!

I got mine from a store on Etsy, but now it says no longer available. If you have access to a 3D printer I have seen plans/files with a design for this application (KC Cyclones to FJ mirrors). I cannot vouch for quality or fit of any of these.

I used the grommet and light from post #6. It worked great. Thanks for the tips of the red film and 680 Ohm resistor. The first gasket took a little to figure out since I didn’t have instructions. I think I squeezed the second one in place in about 5 minutes. I was highly motivated by mosquitoes.

Pretty simple install, about 30 mins total. I used a 2” rubber grommet to get a snug fit and just wired them to the existing mirror lights. It looks so much better now both on and off.

Next I’m going to try figuring out the wiring to reduce the power and hook them up to the blinkers so they’re dimmer when on and brighter as turn signals.

Any luck with, "figuring out the wiring to reduce the power and hook them up to the blinkers so they’re dimmer when on and brighter as turn signals".
I have not found a module like the one used in the original Freedom retrofits conversion kit.

If anyone is looking for brackets, a guy on eBay will sell you them, just message them and ask for just the bracket, they charged me like $20. I used these and the rubber gaskets mentioned in this thread. Anyone have a lead on a resistor to dim the V2’s? Not using them for turn signals, just on with the running lights.
