Dealer mentioned a very small leak from timing cover in my 2010 auto. When I asked the rough estimate to fix if it gets worse, I was quoted "around $2,000", which at their $119/hr rate is nearly 17 hours of work. This cannot be correct....

You do know that dealerships just LOVE to look for some extra work don't you? :wink

I was looking in my repair manual at that one. There's a LOT of parts that have to be taken off the front of the engine just to repair that seal. It looks like a major job too. Frankly, I'd ask just how much oil is leaking or better yet, look around under there yourself. If it's a small amount, I'd leave well enough alone for now. Or you can clean off the area, have some tracer put into the oil and have a mechanic with a UV light show you how much is oozing out after you've driven it for awhile. Then you can make a decision.

Or wait until it is worth replacing the timing belt at the same time

Minor update: dealership will replace it under aftermarket warranty, as seals are covered. Sweet! And also my steering pump too as a preemptive measure, even though it's working fine though making a bit of noise. Am going to install a power steering cooler too once it's in.
