Fog Light Installation?

I just ordered a set of KC Slimlites for my bull guard. Does anyone have a walk through on the installation? I would like to install on my own if possible. Also, i would like the switch to look factory and I dont think the one that comes with the kit will fit into the dash. Any help would be great.

an add a circuit has a fuse...a spade does not. Two completely different things.

one wire is fine. looking at the KC install PDF, the ground from the KC switch did not return to the relay. (The PIAAs had the switch ground wired back to the relay to ground there.)
Just ground the OEM switch with the ring terminal attached. Same difference.

Look at the OEM switch diagram thread link. It spells out the Gauges. I think I used 18 on all the switch things.

I would go to a different autoparts store and get an add-a-circuit. You could used the white KC wire with the in-line fuse with the spade connecter if you want. I would use the add-a-circuit because then your fuse is right there at the fuse panel. Easy to access and replace if ever needed.

You can do this...

If you follow the instructions, the white plug has a place to plug into that connects to a loose plug in the engine bay. The engine bay is a 2 wire plug.

I need to get some t taps and will be finished with my install tomorrow.

Forgive my ignorance, but could someone please explain the significance of the button/loom in this photo? I understand it is a non-returnable item from TRDParts4U due to a modification. I suppose my question is what does this button/loom do differently than factory button and factory switch?

This all worked really well for me. The only part that didn't work is that the LED does not light up when the switch is engaged? The words illuminate, so I assume I wired the back-lighting part of the circuit ok but no LED. I thought it would come on with the switched +12v wire but never did illuminate. Re-capping, My fog lights work via the switch, the back-lighting works, just no LED. Anyone got any Ideas? Is that part of the switch bad?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I'm sorry I should have been more clear, I was typing in a frustrated hurry between finishing the project and going out to dinner with my wife. Anyhow, I did use the factory AUX switch. What I meant about the words illuminating is, when you turn the lights on and the dimming circuit kicks in all the buttons that have words i.e. "RR DIFF LOCK" illuminate. Just the LED doesn't work.

The other thing I neglected to mention is that I got some wires crossed early on and I burned up some component that was inline with the green wire on pin 4. It looked like it may have been A diode or something like that. Does anyone know, if by not having that component inline with the switched 12VDC wire on pin 4 i'm doing some damage to the parts, or if I may cause some harm to myself or my FJ?

Thanks A Lot,
Eric

Anybody know any reason why, if everything else works, i.e. fog lights turn on/off, dimmer illumination works, the LED within the factory AUX switch doesn't?

Hey guys, here's a good one for you...
I installed new foglights yesterday, abiding by the factory installation instructions and using the OEM switch. I got it wired up, T-tapped into the A-trac illumination wires and plugged the white plug into the corresponding location behind the driver side kick-plate and properly grounded it. I then cut the plug off for the foglights in the engine bay and wired my foglights in accordingly and installed the relay and 15A fuse in the fuse box. I went to test them and the only work with the high beams?! Is something crossed? I cant imagine this is how they are supposed to function. My 4Runner worked just the opposite way, i.e. low beam w/ fogs.

Can someone help me?

If you used the OEM harness and followed the OEM instructions, then you did everything correctly.

That is how it was designed. There are posts about how to modify it to have it work not with high beams.
