Good article on Jalopnik. I like this publication. Highly recommended (for Free).

https://jalopnik.com/off-road-vlogger-records-his-jeep-wrangler-going-up-in-1829211352

Despite the fact that this happened to a Jeep, the article touches on some pretty good ideas about fire extinguisher placement, parking in dirt instead of dry grass, checking engine cleanliness, not overtightening oil filters, inspecting exhaust/catalytic systems, etc... Let's be honest, we are all at risk for this with mods, camping, overloading in dry areas, etc... There is a 2008 thread by forum member Bandi about an exhaust wrap glowing red hot after towing a trailer.

Enjoy!

This originally attached to the front passenger seat rail mount, but it was too bulky to keep there. I moved it to the back, which I think is a more common spot anyway. Found it on eBay, made by a guy who makes a ton of stuff for motorcycles. It’s solid.[/QUOTE0]

I like the idea, but I wish there was something more accessible in an emergency.

Bought a bracket from Refined Cycle and mounted a 7lb ABC up high on Driver's side in the rear cargo area.
The stainless steel strap bracket was installed too far forward (the extinguisher rattled a lot), so I drilled out the rivet and riveted it as far rearward as possible. That helped a great deal.

After a few hundred miles it began rattling again, and found the paint wearing off where the neck hooks into the bracket (evidence of excessive movement). So I put some felt around there and it was quiet for about 1000 miles (and a long road trip).

But, then it started rattling again, so at this moment the extinguisher is sitting in a cargo basket in the rear area.

Reflection: a 7lb extinguisher is pretty large, and difficult to hold without it moving around (which will make noise). A little 2.5lb one below the driver's seat would be handy to get to, and surely small enough to not make noise. But, I like the idea of having so much extinguisher capacity, though, and will keep working to make my 7lb one be quiet.

Looks like we are 3 for 3 on the Refined Cycle mount. I really like the concept.

It's interesting that both of the posters above have it mounted with the "open end" of the U shape up. Mine is mounted with the "open end" down which still allows access to the rear passenger side storage compartment. My extinguisher came with it's own bracket which is very nice so i didn't use the supplied bracket. No noise issues yet.

That video has me rethinking my 2.5 pound extinguisher. With a Jeep you can say "oh well, guess I'll buy a new one". With an FJ, it's a little more complicated.

One mounted on the Tuffy Console; accessible from both front seats and either side of the vehicle. One in the rear mounted to the side of the dog cage (Just visible here above the fridge)

In front of the passenger seat. It doesn't restrict their foot movements at all.

Springtail Solutions side rack. Really big pair of quick fists. Never moves. Never shifts. Never rattles. No matter where I'm driving. Could pull it off the rack in seconds.

Lol, I hear you about the holes.
With drawers and fridge slide, there is not much room left inside the Fj. Also it is holding up pretty good with 2.5 lbs.
I picked it up at the Off Road Expo West last week for $45 each.
