Things to look out for in a used FJ?

A little background, I am not new to buying used cars. I am new to FJ. I have always wanted a Toyota truck/SUV and the time has come. I have started looking at buying a used FJ. When I get one it will be a 2007 or 2008, 4x4, automatic with rear locker. Anything more is just a bonus. I'd like to keep it under 80,000 miles. My main question is in reference to problematic areas (if any) that I should look closely at before signing the papers. I have read all about the fender bulges and I think I could spot one easily. Is there anything else I should look at? If I find a screamin' deal on one with 120k+ miles, is there something I need to pay close attention to or should I just pass it up? Any help is appreciated. Please be honest here, I am not in need of one right away so I can afford to be patient and wait for the right one. Thank you for your input.

If you're looking at an 07 or 08, I think you pretty much have it covered with the fender bulges. The rest is just standard car inspection. However, I would test the 4WD and rear locker before purchase. I'm pretty sure a lot of people buy FJs and don't exercise them properly.

some of the early 07's had a rear diff problem, some of which were likely replaced under warranty ... there are plenty of folks on the Forum that have a lot more than 120,000 miles on their trucks so that in and of itself wouldn't scare me off, if the truck was looked after ... they are a good truck ...

Thanks you for your input. Referring to The Cardinal's response - I have been around 4wd and air lockers long enough to know when they aren't working but this will be my first experience with an E-locker. How would I know if the E-locker wasn't working? I will be buying in one of Texas' larger cities (depends on where I find the right one) and may not have the opportunity to find some dirt on a test drive. Is there an indicator light or something that would tell me?

Yep. It looks like a red representation of the truck with an x on it, and should show up beside the 4WD indicator (a green representation of the truck). You'll have to be in 4L to test it. Even if you can just find a little gravel you should be able to give it a whirl. Good luck!
