FJ Cruiser true 4 door?

To invigorate sales I think Toyota should come out with a true four door. A slightly larger FJ would be right up my alley since I think the current one is a bit small on storage. Improve the gas milage too, maybe a diesel engine?

The Prado is also known as the Lexus GX460 minus the diesel. I feel your closest bet would be the 4Runner. The 5th generation 4Runner Trail caught up to the FJ in off-road performance features (It has A-TRAC and a rear diff lock). I feel that's part of the reason why 2014 is the last year of the FJ.

If they start adding doors and all the extra stuff everyone wants it probably would look like a 4Runner and why would Toyota want to build two almost identical vehicles?

Yep. Then we'll get all the "Why can't Toyota make an off road capable vehicle that isn't as fancy as a 4Runner and is cheaper?"

I just did a build on a 4runner .... $47,000 then add extended warranty, tax, dealer fees ...... $55,000 I suspect.

Rather than a 4 door FJ, I am thinking you would be better off with a Highlander and a SFA swap

I may catch flack for this, but isn't calling a 4 door FJ a 4-runner just like calling the 4 door jeep a grand cherokee? Just sayin...

The drive train and frame are basically the same in both the FJ and 4Runner with some small changes so they aren't really that different. A shorter frame for the FJ and different interior and body. A few extra gizmos on the 4Runner that aren't on the FJ. The 4 door Jeep and Grand are completely different from each other.

I totaly agree...i was just being smart a@#. However, imo, the 4 runner and cherokee have more in common than the 4 runner and 4 door jeep. It also begs the question as to why the even made the Fj in the first place...im sure peope said "why dont you just by a 4-runner instead of an FJ, its the same thing"

I really like the idea of a 4 door FJ...lifted and off road ready ofcourse

It might be nice some to have a true 4 door, but I highly doubt that Toyota would make a 4 door FJ that would basically be the same wheel base and have the same drive train as the 4 Runner. They wouldn't be much different except for looks and they could just make a lower level trim package on the 4Runner for a lot less money and just forget the FJ. As far as the 4Runner and Cherokee, yes they have more in common, but so does the FJ. If you look at it the Jeep is solid axle and the FJ, 4Runner, and Cherokee are all IFS. They only real thing the FJ and Jeep have in common is size over the others.

Here's a look at what a 4 door FJ could look like. Basically a 4Runner with some FJ cues. This is the FJ Runner that was built for SEMA.

That's ugly!!!!!

I think making an FJ a full 4 door and adding extras takes away from the off-road factor, just go buy a Hummer

Ehhh, it's not THAT bad! It's kind of a good START anyway!

I think a better question / suggestion to Toyota would be to make a bare-bones, low-cost 2-door version of the 4Runner. The 4Runner is a great vehicle, but it's pretty expensive. A short wheelbase 2-door version would be a perfect platform for serious off-road vehicle.

The 4-Runner is the alternative. A 4 door FJC would defeat the purpose of it's styling. I actually find the FJ to have plenty of room. I suppose the other alternative would be a Wrangler unlimited if you like that block like styling.

I don't like the look of the 4 runner, too soccer mom ....
