Seat belt chime
1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car)
2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
3. Turn the ignition switch off
4. Turn the ignition switch on
5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front seat belt.
7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off".
9. Turn the ignition switch off.
10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal.
11. Check that no buzzer sounds when setting on the front seat.

So sayeth the mighty repair manual... your mileage may vary... items are sold by weight and not by volume, so settlement may have occured during shipment... professional driver on a closed course, do not attempt... etc., ad nauseum. This is not to be construed as legal advice, if you need real legal advice, consult a real lawyer....they need the money!

I like the passenger seatbelt alarm. If you have those friends that don't like to wear a seat belt, the alarm basically makes them. Plus, i tell them if the beeping stops, that is when the ejector seat kicks in.

Still works on the 2010 Vehicles. Annoying when you've got a computer bag, or the like, in the front seat. Having arim rests helped in the process.

You don't.
It probably also says to have all maintenance performed at the dealership

Well one things for sure...

Since I keep a bag on the passenger seat I'd like to disable the alarm but it doesn't work on a 2012 model. If I'm in error I'd admit it but I printed out the instructions and followed them diligently and achieved negative results. Epic fail here. Anyone got any alternatives other than ripping out or cutting the wiring?

that trick does not work on new models.

grab one these off ebay ...

I don't want to turn it permanently off. Just when I've got a bag up front.

I want the vehicle to work properly airbags and all when I've got a passenger or my Wife in it. I want the airbags to work then. She's too good lookin' not to have them on.

$5.99 isn't so bad. Thanks guys. I thought it would be more.

Looks like I'm buckling in the passenger belt first before I put my bag in or just ignore it for the first minute.

A dealer will charge me and I'm too cheap for it...

And the TRD belt extenders aren't compatible with the 2012 model from what Ebay says.

Either way, I thank all of you for your input.

Just had my '12 done the other day. Could have heard a pin drop when I told the service dept. that I wanted to have the seat belt dinger thing turned off. "I don't think we can do......" I cut him off and told him its in the book, you can do it, make it go away. Then it was "we'll have to charge you". I don't care, make it stop. No more dinger thing.

no cutting of wires or paying toyota necessary..

turn ignition 1 time (dont turn the truck on) , hold ODO and count slowly to 14, plug in seatbelt (while still holding down the ODO) when you get to 14, it will say "ON" hit the ODO till it says "OFF"

i've done this 3 or 4 times on different FJs. it works every time.

It works on m 2010. I have to do it everytime I d/c the negative from the battery.

Works on my '10 TTSE as well as an 11
Haven't tried the 12 or 13

Just did the abbreviated version - worked first time!

From the off position,
1) Turn key to ON
2 Within 6 Seconds, press and HOLD the odometer button
3) Wait 12-14 seconds (1 one-thousand, 2 one-thousand...)
7) Buckle your seatbelt
8) Let go of the odometer button and press it again
9) Wait a few seconds until it clears and goes back to the odometer with your milage.
*10) my sanity has returned. Well, no worse than it was before the "incident" :)
