Excellent info from Larry, Mark, and Alex! I just learned a ton in the last 10 minutes. :bigthumb:

......Repeatedly checking the torque can stretch the bolts, also eventually causing failure.....
I don't know that I would agree with this entire statement, it is true repeated loading will cause the bolt to reach failure due to cyclical loading. But when hardware has been selected correctly for bolt material, and threaded insert type(llocking or nonlocking helical coil), bolts should be selected so that 80% of its tensile strength at a worst case will never be exceeded when torqued and in service.

I don't wanna get crazy off topic or whatever in your build thread... but... regarding these anti-coning spacers/rings/etc... is there anything out there premade? I've seen multiple people on other boards coming up with diy solutions, but am curious now seeing how many bolts you sheared off. The most promising things I've seen is to weld another spacer to the innter ring, or to put make up some hdpe rings and put them in between the rings before you torque the outer ring on.
Not sure what your referring to. Larry at TR is sending 3/16" Spacers that should allow the bead to be compressed to the metal ring and not require the bolts to be over torqued. This should eliminate the issue

Darnit! haha. I was ready to make an offer on those sweet wheels if you threw in the towel;)

J/k haha I'm glad it all worked out Amd I will continue to see those rockin wheels on the Crackrock!
Naw... I dig this set up. Its gets lots of looks and just plain works! :rocker:

Nice service from MT and TR! Nick taught me that ratchet strap / CO2 tank to re-bead; never heard the hi lift to break a bead trick though.

I am jealous of the trip, mine was ruined last week. Hopefully I can convince Chris to make a Disney, OK run with me soon.
I never had an issue with the bead setting with these being as tight as they were. PB makes these for Bead locks so they mounted easy.

Dismounting.... whole different issue...

I tried the Hi-Lift method and thought I was going to kill the tire since my rig was actually lifting on the side:worried::lol:

I'll just take them to a shop. I saw a site that carried a Bead breaker- need to find it and then Ill be good.

It was great to meet you this weekend Alex, always good to put a face to a forum name.

I really like that AP LT setup. I've read elsewhere though that the travel numbers aren't that much better than ICON ext travel coilovers. Have you taken any measurements to determine how much Tavel you have over a more basic lifted coilover setup? Sorry if you posted that info elsewhere in the thread, but there are a lot of posts here

Never measured but I assure you they are significantly different. I have a shot in my build thread of the front end flexing in a concrete culvert. That shot shows the rig is level with both ends somewhat flexed with about an inch to go on both up and down travel. Deepest I could find.

The main reason is simple geometry. The Icon's are 7" coil overs and the Fox used for this are 8". Combine that with the extended axles allowing for the arc to be greater and the numbers would be more telling. The Icon set up is closer to 9 1/2" (with the Camburg 1.25" UCA's) where as the AP is closer to 12". There were some previous posts concerning the TC +2" set up but those were proven to yield 12" on one members rig. 2 1/2" may not sound like a lot but with most cranking their coil overs up to gain height- most rarely see the true numbers since they limit the up travel through spring compression. I lose a little with my tire choice and size but make up in dividends on the trails I can cover.

True but with these being loaded and unloaded in tension with airing down, road temps raising tire temps and all the abnormalities that couldn't be foreseen, the prudent thing would be to remove and replace. If the bolts are fastened correctly they shouldn't need to be retightened. If they do, then there was an issue at install that wasn't addressed. I believe in my case the issue was the spacer rings. Not all tires need them so its not always addressed.

After speaking to LT this evening, the bolts are evenly torqued to 20 ft/lbs and each of the 24 collectively hold the ring in compression. If that ring's bolts are torqued too tight due to the tire bead being to large, the bolts are collectively over stressed at the start and cyclic loading is already increased with any additional stresses as most of the threads will become stretched just beyond the insert which is where all of them sheared. They flexed since the ring had room to move. The spacer will eliminate that flex and remove the stress concentrator.

Videos are downloading to Youtube- those would be my first with the Gopro and iMovie so dont laugh at them... On second thought....

G'day Alex,
Glad to read you are getting this sorted, quickly and easily ... and I am trying to absorb all the technical info I am reading .... sheez... LOL, finding it hard to comprehend all this stuff... but still good to learn...
Thanks heaps.

Baz,

As long as your learning otherwise just laugh at how bad my videos are and then it will all be placed into perspective...

G'day Alex,
LOL, I am always learning .... thats one of the great things on this site....
I can't promise not to laugh at your video's .... hehe ....
was the hand model holding the snapped bolts the Tagalong queen ?
If so, she is just buttering you up for another massive purchase ... haha ....
keeping her best customer close n happy .... ( that is not meant in a bad way .. )

OK so Im trying to figure out how to get this "project" to download to Youtube.... These Mac's are very different than the PC's

Ive made all the text's, added music and merged all the collective video files in to two projects since Youtube doesn't allow videos to be longer than 15 minutes. Im currently "finalizing" and the Mac is converting to 1080P. Will I then be able to down load this from Youtube the same as when I down load to Photobucket?

She is the "Dealer"....

She knows that Im down to my last few boxes too... She told me that I had to wait till January. I'll get the countdown timer (1/2Mill90) to keep me in the loop

G'day Alex,
I thought she might be your dealer ... haha
But can't she swing a few boxes early .... just for you ?

As for the video, if you reduce the resolution down - I think to about 768 or there abouts it will render much quicker and be a smaller file size - might to too late for that.
Not sure how to upload from Photobucket with video but I would imagine its the same as photo's.
Are you creating an MP4 or MOV ? if possible it will work better as a DVI format.
Hope I am not confusing you .... Mac is different .... lol ... just another learning curve

Cheers
