Ha! So I'm driving up the road to my house when some group of teenagers, three dudes and a chick decide to start some ****. Of course they decide "Duh... lets pick a fight with the guy in the built rig!" So they do the obligatory pass on a blind turn while one moron leans out the window and yells "**** you Faggott!" and gives me the bird. Then they did the whole slow down in front of me and try to block me, etc... They slowed down and tried to motion me to a turnout; I'm assuming to try to get me to fight them. I don't fight. I shoot. As always, I had my two carry weapons on me (.45 ACP, .45 LC) and I happened to have my .44 Magnum on me too. Like I said, I'm too old for fighting morons now, so if I get attacked and fear for my safety, Someone is going to take a dirt nap. So, of course I wasn't going to pull over and engage a group of teenagers. When they saw that I was just going to drive by, they sped up to try to cut back in front of me from the right shoulder. I waited for it, and timed it perfectly. All three passengers were looking directly back at me through the rear window. I have steel bumpers, so was just going to hit them if they got aggressive, but I waited for the driver to look over his shoulder to see if he was going to make the cut. As soon as I saw his eyes.... BAM!!!! 22in Xmitter bar and two Solstice six inch LEDs instantly blinded all of them (I forgot to mention it was dark at this point). It was so damn funny! The look of pain and shock on all of their faces when they got BLASTED with that intense light.... and it is INTENSE, was worth every penny I spent on them! He lost control for a minute and immediately pulled off to the side of the road. They were all seeing nothing but a blue dot for a couple minutes. I was laughing my ass off. That single moment and the look on their faces was priceless.

I guess some will say that was dangerous and irresponsible of me, but keep in mind these guys were harassing me and trying to get into a position to attack me physically. So their choices were get blinded and leave me alone, or corner me and get blasted with lead, not light. I think they got the better of the possible outcomes.

Only 3 pieces of armor today. LOL. I usually try to carry about 10 pieces at one given time. But I find it a bit restrictive when trying to tie a shoelace or sit down having that much metal on me. :):):):) JK!

Bravo with the light also. Believe it or not I get the bird from a lot of people that ride bikes in the bike lane. For some reason I don't understand why they have to flip me off. I don't drive in the bike lane unless I am about to make a right hand turn. I guess they don't like the sudden gush of wind my rig makes as I pass them. :mecry: I even give them more space than they may deserve. It's not just me. My co-workers also have the same problems. Odd! Oh-well...

Well, there were some long guns in the back, but only three hand guns. I live in Bear country and I go berry picking a lot. Doing that without a gun is just plain risky. Not to mention the Lions, wolves, rattlers, moose, etc... that you could stumble across at the wrong time. In fact, just before the teen morons began their road rage deal, I cam around a corner and there were two Coyote circling a single deer in the middle of the road. There were two other cars with me, and this was low in the canyon... not far from Wallmart. The cars threw the Coyotes off for a second and the deer got the hell out of there while the predators were confused. It was pretty cool... Lucky deer.
I always carry two handguns, but the .44 is usually my bedside gun. I only had it with me because I had done some shooting the other day and left it in the truck.
The Bike riders here in Missoula are actually pretty cool. Well, I'm one of them soooo.... LOL. You'll always get the random asshole, but hell, I guess I'll just blind them too. HA!

I can't keep a side arm by the bed. It might give the wife ideas.

Here in California you might run across a group of people riding their bicycles in a pack or something. Lets just say 10 to 15 of them at one time. You might find 2 or 3 in the bike lane and the rest are in the next lane or two causing traffic to slow and go around them. They can't ride in a single file line for some reason. They have to ride like 6 to 8 wide by 2 deep. They do this so they can all talk to each other. Then when they all get to the stop light they split the lanes and wait tell its clear and then all of them will run the red light together. So now we all have to go around them again, and again, and again.

Wow, that is poor bike manners. Riding in the center of the lane is legal, especially where there is no designated bike lane. They are subjected to the same laws as motor vehicles. I understand the whole riding in the lane thing. Otherwise, you get lots of cars who don't give you and room, and force you to the edge of the road. On a race bike with thin road tires, getting pushed to the cracks and gravel and sewer grates of the gutters is dangerous and likely to cause a bad fall. So, sometimes it is just a matter of safety to force drivers to slow and pass like you were a slow moving geriatric driver. Here in Missoula, a relatively small town, biking is actually usually faster than driving... pretty much anywhere. The traffic here is just a nightmare. Town wasn't designed for the kind of traffic we see as development expands.

But yeah, I noticed some poor manners on behalf of bikers in CO. Running red lights, no turn signals.... Here the cops WILL ticket you for bike infractions just like they will for car infractions.

In California it seems to be legal as I have been told. Except the red light thing. Another thing all the bikers do, will move into the left turn lane and force themselves to the front of the line and make a left turn when the light goes green, if they choose to wait that long. They will make the turn wide to be nice but I once saw a biker get hit head on by on coming traffic. I read later in the news it was the car drivers fault.

Anyways back to your lights.:wave::jester:

I have three words for you Toledo...

I like it!

That is perfect.
They were clearly trying to pick a fight to rob you or mess you up so they could brag to their friends online somewhere.

They got out Twitted :D

Keep an eye out for them though in the future.

Reminds me, I need to ammo up my mags and get my AR15 ready for my vacation/camping trip coming up here shortly.

that was great. great job and well done toledo.... that'll get 'em.

You rock.Living in primarly in the "big city" i really have no need for all the lights (12 foward 2 rearward inc. brights) i have other than the reason you had.The next step if they have gotton out of the car they would have saw more than blue dots that would have been seeing gold dots.

Good job. I don't understand what goes through peoples mind when they do it. I'd only do that if it was a friend, you don't do that to some random stranger and you especially don't do it to the guy that looks like he could just plow through you.

Glad you didn't have to use any of your weapons.

Crazy indeed. I've been to events in MI where I was literally the ONLY foreign vehicle in the entire parking lot. Yeah, you get some nasty scowls and evil eyes.

I too am amazed at the frequency with which people flick me off, yell "Poser", want to fight me, etc. It is really stupid and dangerous. Those kids were lucky that I wasn't some nut job with a bunch of guns that will fly off the handle when provoked. Insults to those types of people are sometimes all that is required to ignite gunplay. I carry not because I'm one of those hot tempered fools, but because I'm aware of how many violent nuts are really out there.

When my neighbor was in highschool, long ago, his prom date flicked some car of dudes off in Toledo. Well, they followed them, attacked them with crowbars and hammers, and smashed their vehicle. I learned my lesson there. Don't flick people off. They might be crazy and armed.

Ha! I still get a warm fuzzy feeling when I think about how I dealt with it last night. I am concerned about vandalism... Missoula is geographically confined, so you see people all the time... everywhere. My rig is an easy target, but I got their plate numbers. If I find the Fungi Finder defaced, I know whose parents will get a call. I'll just lie and say the truck has external hidden cameras, and I have their son and his friends on tape destroying my truck. It is what the cops do during questioning... lie to the suspect and make them believe that the cops have bullet proof evidence.

Anyhow, back to the lights. I couldn't be happier with the Vision X LED lights. Both the 3 and 10 Watt options. Now that I live somewhere with topographical relief, I was actually able to get a feel for the light's reach. Just the 22" bar alone is amazing and could EASILY illuminate a deer or anything in the road over 1,000 feet away. The 10 Watt spot beams blast through that light blanket and penetrate much further. So, for me, they have PLENTY of reach. So far the lights are simply amazing and I am extremely pleased with the product AND the company. The first lightbar they sent was an old design that somehow was still in the inventory. The gasket was initially faulty and would leak when wet. I bought the light through a third party, but Vision X asked no questions and replaced the light with the new design. I've driven in plenty of rain now, and no leaks. In fact, the owner said if the new one fails, they will give me a new light, and $1,000 in credit to purchase anything from them at cost. Now that is some sweet service.

Too bad these A$$ holes probably didn't learn a thing from the incident. They'll be back on the road tormenting their next victim in no time. Anybody that is this stupid and irresponsible... deserves less. Unfortunately, a bullet is probably the only thing that would smart'n them up. Maybe a friendly warning shot would've helped them see the light. ;)

Good job diffusing the situation Toledo! My hats' off to ya! I'm pulling up this thread when I can afford those lights. I need all of the argument I can to convince the wife! Thanks!

I know you're joking with us, but you make a good point for folks with a firearm in their rig.

The DA's and courts are waiting for those folks that display (brandish) or discharge a firearm w/o a strongly perceived threat of great bodily harm or death. Disparity of force helps the defender's position, as does the aggressors action to prevent retreat or escape.

A person defending themselves with a firearm has their "self-defense" argument weakened or nullified if they've been engaged in a verbal argument or have exchanged gestures as they've driven along. If one witness points this out to the police, expect legal trouble.

There are a lot of nutz out there.
Almost daily on the freeway going home I have some small import car tailgating me.
Not the same car, but almost always a tuner car.

They are so close I can not see them in the rearview mirror.

It is not like I am going slow either, speed limit is 60, and I am doing that and also in the slow lane.
Any faster I would be tailgating the person in front of me, one thing I do not do is tailgate.

Then I get the whackos who change lanes and weave in and out of traffic with no signals and cut in front of my ARB bumper by a few feet at 60.
Makes me want to ram it up there you know what.

That pisses me off the most, I'm just like are you kidding me? I'm not going to get a ticket because you want me to go faster than you. My premium is already sky high and I'm not going to make it higher.

You sir, get a free beverage of your choice should we ever meet! Great story! I've the same myself. I also have rear lights that help keep tail gaters at bay. Or the ones that like to keep there high beams on.

I like the idea but was told by a LEO that turning on rearward facing lights on the road was a violation and could result in a serious fine. Is this true?

Toledo,
Count me in on the beverage buy! Show your lights at the 2010 Summit and expect a barley pop from me!

Bravo on the choice of defense. I would get in touch with law enforcement and have the plate run. I would go chat with the parents as a pre-emptive move. But then, you might find the reason why the kids turned out the way they did--is because the parents set such a "good" example........

I had 2 150 watt KCs on my rear bumper of a CJ a while back (5" lifted, 35s). I had a guy come out of nowhere with his brights on, gunning the motor, swerving, honking - right on my ass but would not pass - he had another open lane... I flashed the KCs - just on/off real fast. The car slammed the brakes and stopped on the side of the road.

10 minutes later he pulls up to my house - it was a friend messing around. He recognized the CJ and thought he'd be funny. He said when I hit the lights, all he could do was close his eye and try and remember where the road was. Said it took a solid 60 seconds before he could pull away from the edge of the road. I was more careful with the lights from then on ;)

Love your story Toledo

I thought about installing some lights at the back of my truck (when I have the money) but I don't know if I would want to us them like that unless I really needed to because i'd be too paranoid of making some run off the road and get injured. Good story though, kind wants me to still have them just incase.
