so i don't really know anything about venezuela, but why would having a yellow car there make you nervous? i know about chavez (sp?) but don't really know anything about the situation over there.

Well yellow cars there are not very Common, and everything that is not common there atracts Attention.. even with a black FJ ill be nervous but a yellow one there its like " Hello here im come and get me ", Here in US everything is very different.. anyways ill try my best to stay here, im a citizen already, the main problem for me is that all of my family business are there.. and i have to come back and forth every 4 months..i dont have an stability, and all the money i get is from VZLA , im afraid to sell my properties/business there to risk it in here, Im not saying that investing in US is risky, I would feel the same fear In any other countrys but no pain no gain.. and actually I think its a good time to invest on real estate in here.

Same as in any country facing (real) economic difficulties.

Having a new / flashy / ostentatious vehicle makes one a target for malicious vandalism - or worse. Having horror vacui mods probably wouldn't help. It'll be another advertisement for "extra wealth," since the concept of cash by far outweighs credit.

The U.S.A. has quite a diverse selection of vehicles. Less affluent countries will typically have a small, limited, practical, tried - and - true bunch of hardy vehicles - either Japanese or European. Auto transmissions are rare, due to 1) poor dealership service / technical know - how and 2) higher cost for repairs.

With that in mind, the FJC stands out - brand new or otherwise.

The cost of a complete color change respray... this is absolutely one of those times where "you get what you pay for." If you want it done right than 5-6k is a bargain. I recently preped ( stripped down) a Rolls Royce for a same color respray and it was 7K. That was the painter just painting it , no disassembly on his part. I lovingly refer to those Maaco shops as 60 day wonders...in 60 days you wonder where the paint went.

The labor to paint it will be the same at almost all quality shops. The products they use is what makes the bill go up or down. 5k is a good average. I am repainting mine my self and will have about 3500 in it just in paint material, and Im going custom graphics not color change. Shop around before you decide on a shop, they might charge alot but give you cheap quility work. Thats to nice a rig to mess up!

2 sheets of sandpaper - $2.00
6 cans of flat black spray paint - $9.99
1 case of beer - $20.00

Doing your own custom paint job - priceless.

All joking aside, this is like others have mentioned how good do you want it to be vs how much you want to spend. This is one of the few mods that you get exactly what you pay for.

I really like the black top with yellow sides. Very appealing! If you change your mind about venezula, I will trade you a Toyota Tercel for your FJ. Just keep that in the back of your mind. have fun!

The painting process for Toyota is going to be substantially different than one off paint jobs, so there is not much value in comparing the two.

At Toyota the vehicle will go through multiple dunk tanks to clean and etch the body. Then along the line to the paint shop where 95% is done by robotic arms and is baked on (different process) - very little, if any, of the body is painted by people. You'd have to divide Toyotas total cost for paint by the total number of FJs produced to even get a ball park number (probably much cheaper than an aftermarket paint job) and it won't provide any link or great insight on an aftermarket paint job since they are different processes.

Just Line-x the whole thing, they have lots of colors and just think of all that sound deadening and protection it will give u....couple of guys here have done it, one I know one guy did it himself, he said the hardest part was find a proper compressor setup that would push the product out properly.

I am glad I live in a place where I don't have to worry about the color of my car. Here in Tucson, driving a FJ is as common as wearing a watch. A yellow FJ is like a watch with hands.

Back in the 90s, I met a thirty-something guy out in a small town that did car painting, primarily up to $20K per car on serious Mercedes restorations. Every few weeks a car carrier would come with the next patient.

The dirty secret: He had a three-car garage and he used that cheap plastic sheeting and some pvc pipe to make a "shower curtain" around the middle bay. He hosed the floor down with his garden hose before he sprayed. He owned two Binks guns, a quart and a touch-up, and a 15-gallon home store compressor.

The other not so dirty secret: His body prep and painting technique were incredible, and his customers paid for it.
